Dr. Hally Beth Walker Poindexter (Ed.D.) Hally Beth Walker Poindexter is Professor Emerita and former Chair of the Department of Kinesiology at Rice University, Houston, Texas. A native Texan, she received a BA from Rice University, a BS from the University of Houston, and her MA from the University of Northern Colorado. Her Ed.D. was granted by Teachers College, Columbia University. Dr. Poindexter has taught and/or held administrative positions in four universities: Columbia University, Tsuda College (Tokyo, Japan); University of Houston and Rice University. Her professional service spans over fifty years. She authored or co-authored four books, several book chapters and over fifty professional articles. She has been a reviewer and editor for several professional journals. She has made professional presentations to numerous local, state, regional, national and international professional organizations. She began her professional work through involvement in girls and women's sports, as a teacher, coach and author. She co-authored three textbooks and numerous articles focusing on sports and coaching skills for women before turning her research interests to the role of psychomotor behavior of emotionally disturbed children. She continued to pursue interests in the relationships of physical activities, sport and sociological and psychological factors in the development of young people as well as research interests in the role of exercise in women's health. Her interests also involved field testing and application of motor learning theories and administrative issues in higher education. Ms. Poindexter has served as President of the Texas AAHPERD; President of Southern District, AAHPERD; President of the National Association for Kinesiology and Physical Education in Higher Education (NAKPEHE); and Chair of the College and University Administrators Council (former of AAAALF, AAHPERD). Recognition for her professional contributions is indicated by her selection as the recipient of the Hugh Scott Cameron Award (Rice University); TAHPERD Honor Award, 1972; TAHPERD Outstanding PEPI Award, 1981; TAHPERD Scholar, 1983; David K Brace Award, TAHPERD; Southern District Honor Award, 1981; College and University Council Honor Award, 1991; Distinguish Administrator's Award, NAKPEHE, 1994; the twenty ninth Amy Morris Homans Commemorative Lecturer, 1995; Outstanding Rice Faculty Woman, 1996; SAWPASH President's Award for Outstanding Service, 1996; Distinguished Scholar Award, NAPEHE, 1999; Alfreda Mosscrop Commemorative Lecturer, 1999; AAHPERD Honor Award, 1997; and the Presidential Award, NAPEHE, 2000. In 2002 NAKPEHE named the annual Young Scholar's Award and Lecture in honor of Dr. Poindexter.
