Dr. Nicholas K. Iammarino Ph.D., CHES

Professor and Chairman

Dr. Nicholas K. (Nick) Iammarino is Professor and Coordinator of Health Sciences. He was previously the Chief Health Professions Advisor at Rice University; a position he held since 1984. Dr. Iammarino holds several adjunct positions in area institutions including: Adjunct Professor, Department of Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine, Adjunct Professor, Department of Behavioral Sciences, The University of Texas School of Public Health, and Associate Director for International Initiatives, Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Research Center, Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Iammarino earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Dayton, and a Masters of Health Education from the University of Toledo. He received his Ph.D. in Health Education from the Ohio State University with specialization in Preventive Medicine (Epidemiology). He was elected to Fellow of the American School Health Association in 1985 and Charter Fellow of the American Association for Health Education in 1988. Professor Iammarino was credentialed as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) in 1989.

Dr. Iammarino has been active in both state and national professional organizations. He is Past Chair of the Comprehensive School Health Education committee of the American Cancer Society (ACS), Texas Division and served on the Advisory Board of ACS Houston Unit. He has also been elected to the Board of Directors of the American School Health Association as well as the Association for the Advancement of Health Education. He is a Charter Member and served on the first Board of the American Academy of Health Behavior. He is also Senior Associate Editor for the
American Journal of Health Behavior and serves on the Editorial boards of 3 additional health-related journals.

Dr. Iammarino's professional and research interests are in the areas of cancer and other chronic screening programs, international health, and comparative health care policy.
